Homemade maple syrup

So, if you want a good recipe,  here is what I used for years:

4 cups sugar                                                                1/2 cup brown sugar

2 cups water                                                                1 tsp. vanilla

1 tsp. maple flavoring

Combine sugar and water.  Boil GENTLY for 10 minutes.  Cool, and add flavorings.  Add 1/2 cup white Karo syrup.

If you are sugar concerned, like I am, this version tastes fine, it's just watery:

1 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp. maple (I would increase this)
1 tsp. vanilla

It looks like coke, but it tastes like maple. Yumm.
