Hazelnut Ice Cream

My favorite Italian restaurant is Osteria Amore in Salt Lake and they have the best hazelnut gelato ever. I found this recipe for hazelnut ice cream- which was really good- but not as good as their gelato. The people who own the restaurant are also Italian, so unless I can get my hands on their recipe, I might have to call it good with this. It was creamy and has good flavor, but I will probably add hazelnut liquer next time for a deeper flavor. It gets a 7.5 and the recipe came from themessybaker.com.

I accidentally bought chopped, roasted hazelnuts, so cut down the roasting time in the oven to 4 minutes. I wasn't able to get the skins off, but they came off anyway when I strained it all out.

  • 1 1/2 cup hazelnuts
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 3/4 cups sugar I used 2/3 C.
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon hazelnut liqueur (optional)
